The General Account Hedging Unit is dedicated to creating and delivering solutions that support growth and improve the Company’s profitability through its use of derivatives strategies to solve Asset Liability Management challenges. 

 

The derivatives trader will work closely with portfolio managers, asset originators and other customers to develop, recommend, implement, and manage hedging solutions.  They will provide subject matter expertise for derivative topics including markets, regulations, trends, and products to assist in the development of new products, strategies, and programs within the firm.  A key part of the role is communication with various groups including IT, treasury, risk management, middle office, and accounting. 

 

The successful candidate will possess a superior understanding of derivative markets; the derivative instruments used to manage risk; and the accounting and regulatory environment of both insurance companies and asset managers.  They will work well both independently and within a group to drive new programs and maintain existing initiatives.  They will be able to develop, write and present strategic views on financial market topics that lead to actionable hedging or trading opportunities.

 

The selected candidate will report to the Head of General Account Derivative Trading, but work with the larger Derivatives Unit, including helping the Variable Annuity hedging team manage FX exposures, and coordination with the GA hedging team members in management of swapped bond programs and other initiatives. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Manage and execute hedge programs, seeking to minimize execution costs and maximize alpha generation opportunities
  • Development of hedging strategies and solutions
  • Development of relationships with sell-side traders and salespeople
  • Develop strategy pieces and publish position papers
  • Develop and grow junior talent
  • Develop and grow internal and external partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Report hedge program performance to management
  • Provide project leadership for some of the Unit’s strategic initiatives, as needed
  • Pre-trade analysis and modeling
  • Position reporting and ad-hoc risk analysis
  • Monitoring risk positions and P&L
  • Attend and present at trader meetings
  • Work cross-functionally with diverse teams, including Investments IT, Treasury, Risk Management, ALM, Middle Office, Accounting and Portfolio Management 
  • Effectively lead staff in a manner that results in high productivity and performance, champion a culture of continuous improvement. Provide a working environment that enables staff to grow and succeed on a professional level

 


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • 5+ years of derivative trading experience required
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills required
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required

Preferred:

  • Global market and FX experience a plus
  • Insurance investments experience a plus
  • Experience developing hedging solutions a plus
  • Experience writing about derivative markets and strategy a plus
  • Masters of Business Administration degree (or comparable) a plus

The expected salary range for this position is . This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation.  All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
