MetLife’s Insurance Investments Group manages a diversified portfolio of public and private assets across fixed income and equity sectors, which include government and corporate bonds, structured finance, real estate and agricultural investments. 

 

This position within Pension & Investment Manager Oversight will be responsible for analysis, oversight and evaluation of MetLife’s Separate Account and Benefit Plans investment managers including preparing and presenting manager proposals for approval to respective governance committees and stakeholders. 



Key Responsibilities:  

  • Assist in oversight of MetLife’s Separate Account and Benefit Plans investment managers by providing the Director of Pension & Investment Manager Oversight with material support in talent development, unit functions and operations.
  • Work with senior management in developing, formalizing and refining best in class operating policies, governance structure, procedures and protocols.
  • Support and partner with internal (e.g., compliance, risk, legal, insurance) and external (e.g., asset managers, auditors, data and system providers and custodial banks) constituents in order to meet business objectives.
  • Review / analyze portfolio performance including: performance relative to benchmark / peers, quantitative independent analysis such as risk adjusted returns, regime specific performance, performance attribution by style, market cap, region, sector and factor.
  • Manager Selection:  Quantitative screening (e.g., performance evaluation, risk analysis, style consistency and peer group / benchmark comparisons). Qualitative evaluation (e.g., management, organization, personnel and culture).
  • Prepare written board memorandum, recommendations, presentations (scheduled and ad-hoc basis) for review by the various governance committees and stakeholders.



Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: 

Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience; including a minimum of 5 years’ experience gained through relevant pension / endowment / foundation / sovereign wealth fund / investment consulting / private wealth / insurance sub-advisory / asset management tenure. 
  • Strong quantitative and technical skills.
  • Results orientated with the ability to troubleshoot data anomalies and gaps under demanding time constraints.
  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to change.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate and drive results from project team members.
  • Working knowledge of multiple investment strategies and asset classes.
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate with an array of internal and external constituents.
  • Strong Excel (preferable experience with VBA), PowerPoint and Power BI skills. 
  • Proficiency with investment analytics systems (e.g. Bloomberg, BondEdge, eVestment, Morningstar, Lipper).

 Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Finance, Economics, Engineering or other highly quantitative or business field. MBA and/or CFA preferred, other investment / risk certifications.
  • Knowledge of US insurance (e.g., BOLI, Stable Value) and non-US insurance products (e.g., unit linked insurance) and benefit plan accounting. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Fixed income and / or alternatives investment background.
